FC Barcelona are looking for the long term replacement of club captain Carles Puyol and according to a report, they are preparing a move for Juvetus midfielder Paul Pogba and Manchester City captain Vencent Kompany.
Spanish daily El Mundo Deportivo has reported today that Barca management has finalized the name of Luis Enrique as their future coach and the Spaniard has identified Vincent Kompany as his primary target. Juventus starlet Paul Pogba is also liked by Enrique and Barca management has sanctioned a move for both the players.
El Mundo reports that the 2013-14 season has not finished yet, but Barça has already started planning about 2014-15. There was a preliminary meeting between Barca directors Andoni Zubizarreta,Narcis Julia, Albert Valentin and future coach Luis Enrique which led to the first lines in the planning of the promised ” extensive refurbishment ” from the club.
Luis Enrique, as future successor of Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino on the bench at Camp Nou, knew firsthand the dossier Barca technical secretariat has prepared on the transfer market.
Mundo Deportivo has confirmed that, as initial targets, Barca think Vincent Kompany and Paul Pogba. In other words, the club thinks big. Luis Enrique want a defender who is comfortable in physical game as well as in marking and has identified Kompany as the perfect candidate.
Kompany , one of the best plants in the world , measures 1.90 tall, and Paul Pogba , the midfielder is popular in Europe , thanks to his physical portentous which also include its 188 centimeters long. However, the problem in both cases is the same: they belong to large clubs with sound financial position.
Kompany, 28, is known for his physical game as well as his excellent marking skills. Enrique already has made his future plans for Barca. The Catalans are traditionally weak against physical sides and current Celta Vigo boss wants to remove this deficiency by adding City captain in his squad. Barca back line has been under considerable scrutiny this season, particularly for a lack of aerial presence and especially when it comes to defending set-pieces.
Now, considering the UEFA actions against Manchester City under ‘Financial Fair Play’ regulations, the Barca believe they could make their move this summer, if they can tempt the English side to the negotiating table.
The other target of Barcelona, Paul Pogba, is to add more power to their midfield and altogether a very difficult prospect, with Catalans reported to be weighing up a huge bid for young Frenchma. Barca management is aware that such a move will require a bid of around €60 million, if they’re to lure him away from Juventus.
Pogba is the hottest property in the world Football at the moment with clubs like Real Madrid, PSG and United are also interested in him and if Barcelona do choose to make a move, should Juventus be open to talks about selling such a key player, it will be a start of very high profile bidding war.
