The management of FC Barcelona is on high alert as the news has emerged today that their primary transfer target Thiago is plotting an exit from his current club Paris Saint Germain.
Spanish daily newspaper El Mundo Deportivo understands that Paris Saint-Germain captain Thiago Silva is ready to consider his options at the end of the season.
Mundo Deportivo reports that Thiago Silva could leave PSG at the end of this season if the opportunity to leave the French club with dissatisfaction as his relationship with the coach Laurent Blanc is not smooth or looks like it may remain so in the future.
Silva would continue rethinking over his future because of this dissatisfaction from the point of view of their (read PSG) professional development. It has not helped the team getting out in the quarterfinals of the Champions League despite a 3-1 win in first leg.
The Brazilian is reportedly disappointed by team’s failure to match Europe’s best sides, while his relationship with boss Laurent Blanc appears to be at an all-time low.
As a result, the 29-year-old is thinking about leaving PSG for one of Europe’s top sides at the end of the current campaign.
Silva will have no shortage of offers if he decides to quit Parc des Princes, with Barcelona and few more European giants keen on his services.
And naturally, this is just the first step in this potential transfer, and Barcelona still face the mammoth task of convincing Paris Saint-Germain to part ways with their captain, but with the backing of the player, it appears as though the power has now shifted to Catalunya.
Of course, PSG do not want to lose their captain, but if Silva has truly set his sights on a move away from Parc de Princes, there’s not an awful lot they can do to change his mind.
The Brazilian is widely regarded as one of world’s top centre-backs and the latest reports could spark a real bidding war for the former AC Milan star.
Thiago Silva joined PSG from San Siro two years ago and he has since made a total of 46 Ligue 1 appearances, scoring 3 goals in the process.
The Brazil captain played 34 matches for PSG last season and was given the armband a few weeks after his debut.
Thiago Silva marshalled the big-spending club to their first French title since 1994 and helped them reach the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time in 18 years.
Barcelona are in desperate need of quality defender and they have been keeping tabs on Thiago Silva for long. If there is a really feud between coach Laurent Blanc and Thiago Silva, then Barca do have realistic chance of getting their man.
