FC Barcelona could be without Neymar and Jordi Alba for the remaining part of the season after the duo picked up injuries during the Copa Del Rey final.
Things have gone from bad to worse for Gerardo Martino this season as he has seen his side being knocked out of the Champions League and follow it up with a defeat in the final of the Copa del Rey against Real Madrid – which was their best hope of lifting a trophy this season. They have also fallen four points behind league leaders Atletico Madrid after suffering a shock defeat against Granada in their last La Liga outing. And as if things weren’t bad enough, Barcelona now face the possibility of miss out on Neymar and Jordi Alba for the rest of the season after the duo picked up injuries during the Copa del Rey final.
Neymar, who hasn’t lived up to the expectations in the last few matches, picked up a metatarsal injury during the last game. Initial diagnosis has ruled him out for at least four weeks, which means the Brazilian still has a possibility of facing of Atletico Madrid in the final game of the league, if he recovers in this assumed duration. This is his second injury this season after he suffered a tendon sprain during their Copa del Rey match against Getafe.
“Neymar Jr picked up an injury in the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid. The player sustained a contusion that caused an edema in the fourth metatarsal of his left foot.
The player will begin treatment and will be out of action for four weeks. If Neymar will be able to participate in the last match of the season, against Atlético Madrid, if recovers in the estimated time.” – Read an official statement on Barcelona’s website.
Barcelona’s worries are compounded by the fact that Jordi Alba, who replaced at halftime with a muscle tear in his right leg, could out of action for three-four weeks as well. Like Neymar, he could feature in the last game of the season if he recovers in estimated time.
“The first team returned to training this afternoon after yesterday’s Cup final in Mestalla, and they did it without Jordi Alba. The player picked up a muscle tear in the biceps femoris of his right leg and will be out of action between three to four weeks. If he recovers in the estimated time, he’ll be fit to play against Atlético Madrid in the last game of the season. “ – Read an statement released by the Spanish side.
Barcelona are also facing concerns regarding the fitness of Marc Bartra, who suffered a strained hamstring during the final. He is unlikely to feature in their upcoming match against Athletic Bilbao.
