Arsenal FC have opened talks with French club Toulouse regarding the transfer of right back Serge Aurier.
Reports suggest that Arsenal FC have opened talks with Toulouse regarding the transfer of young Ivory Coast wingback Serge Aurier.
Serge Aurier made a name for himself with French club Toulouse this season after putting in some fantastic performances. The 21-year-old, who joined the club from Lens back in 2012, was one of the best right backs in Europe in the recently concluded season and has drawn a lot of attentions from clubs across Europe. Chelsea, Newcastle United, PSG and Monaco have been linked with a move for the youngster, but Arsenal are considered as the favourites to land him in the summer.
The Ivory Coast international, who was also selected for the 23-man World Cup squad, has earlier stated his desire and “dream” to play for Gunners.
“You cannot refuse Arsenal. You can ask any player if he would play for Arsenal and I think he would respond positively without hesitation.
“It is certain that Arsenal is a dream.
“PSG and Monaco are building and, within two or three years, may be the best teams in the world.
“But I’m talking more in terms of the championship, I would like to see another championship. It is not a question of the level of teams, it’s just that there are other interesting championships.
“England is a championship where smaller clubs can beat the bigger clubs. Everyone would like to play there, this is a championship which is a little crazy, with a great atmosphere in the stadiums.
“This is the league that suits me the most, in terms of my commitment, my playing style. Later, Germany and Spain may also be pleasant.” – Aurier said in an interview back then.
Arsenal are expected to sign a right back in the summer as Bacary Sagna is expected to leave the Emirates. The Frenchman hasn’t agreed to an extension yet and Arsene Wenger is believed to be eying Serge Aurier as his replacement. Reports suggest the London club have opened talks with Toulouse regarding a £7 million move for the young right back. Aurier’s current contract with the French club runs till 2018 and they are in a position to bargain with Arsenal for a better deal.
