Yaya Toure’s agent has revealed that the midfielder is likely to quit Manchester City at the end of this season.
The 29-year-old has been a significant figure in the Manchester City squad since joining the club from Barcelona back in 2010. Last season, he, along with club captain Vincent Kompany, was a key contributor behind City’s Premier League success. But it looks like his time at the Etihad stadium could be nearing its end.
The midfielder has been in negotiation with the Manchester club for a new contract this season, but the talks have stalled in recent weeks. Toure, who is reportedly on a wage of £220,000-a-week plus bonuses, is already City’s top earner. But the Ivorian international is looking for a new five-year deal to secure his future at the club.
According to reports, the reigning Premier League champions aren’t keen on offering such a lengthy contract to the former Barcelona midfielder given his age. But now Toure’s agent, Dimitri Seluk, has given City a 4-day deadline in order to offer a new contract or the midfielder will start negotiating with other interested clubs.
Dimitri Seluk also revealed that Toure is also unhappy at the lack of respect that is shown towards him by the staff and believes that City owner, Sheikh Mansour, might have to step-in in order to conclude the negotiations.
“If he signs a contract in the next three or four days, OK. If not, we will not wait any longer and will start negotiations with different clubs. Today is Tuesday, so it means by Saturday. We will say ‘Thank you. OK, Yaya will leave in May.’
“I do not feel he will stay at City. This is not about money. He wants to leave because of many reasons. He is one of the best players at Manchester City but does not feel the respect of the staff. Only Roberto Mancini respects Yaya.
“It’s all strange. It’s not normal to have negotiations for six months about a contract. They have been talking about small details all this time. May be if the owner speaks to Yaya, may be he doesn’t know the details” – Seluk was quoted in press.
Reports also suggest that Toure would consider buying out his contract if City deny him the opportunity to move to another club this summer. Cash-rich French club, PSG, have been previously linked with the 29-year-old midfielder, who is looking for one last big contract as his age approaches the wrong side of thirty.
Toure’s departure will leave a gaping hole in the midfield as there are very few midfielders in the world who can replace him in a team. Even Manchester City, with all their riches, will find it hard to replace him with another player. With the future of Dzeko, Nasri and Tevez already in doubt, we could possibly be looking at a completely new starting eleven at the Etihad stadium next season.
The above statement by Toure’s agent will also put a number of clubs on red alert, and one wonders if that was the motive behind all this.
