Liverpool FC defender Sebastian Coates has hinted at a possible move away from the club in search of first team action.

Liverpool transfer newsThe Uruguayan international has made only 22 appearances since joining the club back in 2011 from Nacional. In fact this season, he has made only three appearances in the Premier League, out of which two appearances were as a substitute. Coates’ last appearance for the Mersey side club came in December, when he was brought on towards the closing stages of the match against West Ham.

The 22-year-old has increasingly grown frustrated with his lack of first team action this season and has now indicated his desire to move to another club in the summer. Coates has admitted that he needs to play more in order to secure is place in the national team, with the World Cup looming large on the horizon.

“I want to play, and more than anything with all that is coming up for the national team, I need to play. With this in mind, I want to play whether it is at Liverpool or somewhere else.” – The Liverpool defender was quoted in El Observador .

The Uruguayan international also revealed that the club has denied him the opportunity to move elsewhere on loan during the winter transfer window, when reportedly West Brom and Wigan were interested in signing the defender.

“It’s difficult [to train all week and not play], but this happens to all players at some point and you just have to train as hard as you can to show that if they give you a chance then you will make the most of it.

“In the window there was the possibility of going on loan to a few teams but the club told me that I couldn’t.

“Nearly always I travel with the team and then get left out.

“But I try to be good, keep my head, train well and wait for my opportunity.” – Coates added.

The defender has also stated that he talk with the club regarding his future at Anfield at the end of this season. When Coates was asked whether he is frustrated with his situation at the club, the defender replied –

“yes, but I think that it would for everyone… It’s difficult.”

“I have a contract until 2016, but we will have to see what will happen with my future. I will wait until the transfer window and talk to the club.”

The 22-year-old might receive more first team opportunity next season considering the fact that Carragher is set to retire. But rumours suggest that the club is in the market looking for a possible replacement for the English defender, which suggests that Brendan Rodgers isn’t convinced that Coates is ready for first team action yet. Italian giants Juventus are monitoring his situation and the defender might jump at an opportunity to switch clubs if the reigning Serie A champions comes in with an offer.
