Liverpool FC are expected to complete the signing of Sevilla forward Luis Alberto.
The Spanish U-21 international was on loan to Barcelona B last season, where he put up some fantastic display – scoring 11 goals and providing 18 assists in the process. But Barcelona didn’t exercise the option to sign him permanently, which left the door open for Liverpool. The Mersey side club have been scouting the 20-year-old forward for a long time and have finally made their move.
Sporting Director of Sevilla, Ramon Verdejo, confirmed Liverpool’s interest two days back in an interview. But the Spaniard insisted that although they have received a ‘good offer’ they were not ‘satisfied’ with it. Liverpool were asked to increase their initial offer and according to latest reports that a second bid of £7m has been accepted by Sevilla. Luis Alberto is said to arrive at Anfield for a medical tomorrow and complete his move.
The 20-year-old has expressed his delight at joining a big club like Liverpool in an interview. He accepted that it is was big decision to make, but the success of Spanish players in the Premier League has encouraged him.
“I’m very excited, going to a club like Liverpool, a new culture, a new language, I have to adapt quickly, but I’m very excited ahead of this great step.
“There are many Spanish players in England and it’s going pretty well for them. Seeing players doing well there motivates me more.
“I have always said that it is the club [Sevilla] where I have grown, it is my home.
“I owe a lot to Sevilla, and I am a little hurt to leave as I have not had the opportunity to show my talent in the Primera Division.
“It seems that I was going to return to Sevilla, but Liverpool came in and it’s a very important step. I have had to make a difficult and important decision and I hope to be successful.” – Luis Alberto told the press.
He is set to become the third signing this season for Brendan Rodgers after the Merseyside club’s capture of Iago Aspas and Kolo Toure. Henrikh Mkhitaryan is also on the club’s radar as Liverpool looks to rebuild the squad ahead of the new season.
Luis Alberto has mostly played as a left-sided forward lasts season at Barcelona B, but he can also play as a striker up front. Although he lacks a bit of pace, he, like most of the Spaniards these days, has excellent technical abilities. But perhaps his greatest strength is his ability to find space and exploit it with brilliant off-the-ball movement. Liverpool are building an exciting attack – exciting times for the fans.
