13. Mohammedan Sporting Club set to raid Salgaocar SC for foreign talent

Mohammedan Sporting are planning for life without Sanjoy Sen. Kolkata club has a large fan base and it will be important to keep them happy and to make the fans happy it is important to rope in quality players. With a limit of 4 foreigners in the I-League squad, it is important to rope in players with proven talent and Mohammedan SC think tank has identified Salgaocar duo of Josimar and Luciano Sabrosa to do the job for them in their returning season. Salgaocar captain Luciano Sabrosa is a reliable central defender even at the age of 33 and his experience will come handy in I-League as well as Kolkata League. Former Prayag United striker Josimar had a brilliant few months with Salgoacar and found the net 6 times recently in I-League. Both the Brazilians are expected to perform important duties for Mohammedans Sporting Club in I-League if the deal goes through.

THT Verdict: Possible

14. Dempo SC extends contracts with Joaquim Abranches, Rowilson Rodriguez, Cresson Antao and Cliffton Gonsalves

Dempo SC have acted quickly to secure the signatures of some of the promising footballers for next season. Joaquim Abaranches was a hot property after his exploits last season and the Dempo club management did well to sign an extension. Scoring 6 goals out of 24 I-League games isn’t a good record, but in general Indian players have found it difficult to score goals and among them Joaquim was decent. Defenders Rowilson Rodriguez and Cresson Antao enjoyed good amount of playing time in I-League as well. Securing a contract extension for them makes sense as well. There are question marks over striker Clifton Gonsalves’ abilities and the contract extension cannot be considered as a smart piece of business by the goan giants.

THT Verdict: Confirmed

15. Oscar Bruzon will continue with Sporting Clube de Goa till 2016.

Spaniard Oscar Bruzon has signed a contract extension with the Goan club till 2016 after weaving his magic on the relegation threatened side. Sporting Clube de Goa was aided by the Spanish revolution at the turn of the year and will be looking forward to build from that momentum to match their ambitions. Spaniard Oscar Bruzon has impressed the clubs critics and supporters alike with his methods and teams performances. By leading the club to 6th position, their best ever finish in recent time he has earned his stay in Goa by more than one means.

THT Verdict: Confirmed

16. Prayag United SC midfielder MP Sakeer is in the radar of Mohammedan Sporting.

Former Viva Kerala player of the season MP Sakeer’s career had stalled in recent times with limited playing time. Former India U-23 midfielder was tipped to make it big when he moved to Churchill Brothers from Viva Kerala. But he couldn’t get going at Goa in the next two seasons and he jumped to Kolkata when an offer came from big spenders Prayag United SC. He found his role even limited at Kolkata as he made just 3 appearances this season in I-League. He is at a crucial stage in his footballing career and regular football is the need of the hour. Mohammedan Sporting might offer him the playing time he deserves and this will be a crucial step in resurrecting his career.

THT Verdict: Possible

17. Arthur Papas is favorite to land Dempo job after rejecting AIFF  offers.

Arthur Papas had produced brilliant football with the upcoming Indian youngsters and some of the top AIFF officials believed that Papas and Wim Koevermans are the good things happened to Indian Football in recent times. Arthur Papas’s understanding of the game and tactical flexibility allowed the players to showcase their talents on the biggest stage. The young coach has impressed the pundits with his performances first in AFC U-22 qualifiers and then with Pailan Arrows. Arthur Papas stoke has risen above the market and it will be interesting to see how many offers comes his way this summer. He is currently back in Australia and will take his time analyzing the options on the table. It is believed that Dempo put up a decent offer for the Australian and are waiting for his return to finalize the discussions and contract details.

THT Verdict: Possible

18. Sanjoy Sen and Santhosh Kashyap leading the race for Pailan Arrows hot seat.

The Vacancy left by Arthur Papas is a tough job, especially with lack of funds and problems with Sponsors. But it doesn’t reduce the glamour of an AIFF job and one would like to grab that opening with both hands if it comes his way. AIFF’s search for successor is rumored to be in final stages with former Mohammedans coach Sanjoy Sen and ONGC tactician Santhosh Kashyap leading the chase. Both have the tactical acumen and the ability to coach a team at the highest level. But are they an improvement over outgoing Aussie Arthur Papas? AIFF needs to think forward and need to appoint someone who can take the youngsters to next level.

THT Verdict: Unlikely

19. Mohun Bagan likely to release Tolgay Ozbey from their roster

Chit fund scams has affected the Kolkata clubs in a major way and the funds are expected to be limited for next seasons I-League campaign. The enormous salaries paid to the players in last season by few of the clubs are looking likely to be a thing of the past as Clubs will find it difficult to maintain the balance. With funds dried up, Clubs will be trying to reduce the salaries unlike previous season where they chased players with huge offers. Mohun Bagan officials are keen to balance the books and asked Tolgay Ozbey to take a pay cut inorder to continue at the club. It is believed that Tolgay has rejected this idea and is set to be released from the squad. Balancing the club books is more important in the long run and it is a good idea to release a player who hasn’t delivered in a big way after moving in from local rivals.

THT Verdict: Likely

Namibian International Quinton Jacobs had amazed 28 I-League appearances in a 26 game season!. His 15 appearance in Salgaocar colours in first half was boosted by further 13 appearances in Green and Maroon brigade from Kolkata. 34 year old veteran midfielder brings vast experience across the globe and will be  a good addition to any side. Unlike the other newly promoted side Mohammedan Sporting Club, Rangdajied United had a quieter window and are looking for value for money additions to extend their stay in I-League. They have identified Quinton Jacobs as their priority and working on the finer aspects of the deal to make use of Kolkata clubs financial insecurity to lure him away from them.

THT Verdict: Possible
