La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly weighing up signing 25-year-old Spanish international Carlos Soler in a Bosman move in 2023.

According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Carlos Soler is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants are considering the prospect of securing the services of the 25-year-old Spanish international in a Bosman move in 2023 if he runs down his contract with Valencia.

Carlos Soler has spent his entire career with Valencia, starting at Los Che’s academy as an eight-year-old in 2005 before progressing through the ranks and making his first-team debut in December 2016. Since then, the Spaniard has come leaps and bounds, establishing himself as a pivotal figure for Valencia.

The 25-year-old has enjoyed a solid 2021/22 campaign, chipping in with 12 goals and five assists in 32 appearances across all competitions. But Soler’s contract situation has put Valencia in a spot of bother, with his deal running out in a little over a year. Such a situation has alerted several high profile clubs across Europe, including Barcelona.

The interest from Barcelona stems from the advancing years of Sergio Busquets. While Soler will not be a like-for-like replacement for the veteran Spanish international, Xavi Hernandez already has two viable successors in his squad in Frenkie de Jong and Nico Gonzalez.

Soler could thus take up de Jong’s spot in the middle of the park if he joined Barcelona, making him a viable target. As a result, the Catalan giants are closely monitoring the 25-year-old’s situation at the Mestalla and could launch the offensive for him in the summer transfer window of 2023 over a possible Bosman move.

A move in 2023 makes sense, considering Franck Kessie will likely join Barcelona to bolster their midfield department this coming summer. But Barcelona will need to be wary of the competition for Soler’s signature, with several other European bigwigs also keen on signing him.

Juventus, Tottenham and Liverpool are some of Soler’s prospective suitors who could look to prise him away from Valencia in the summer transfer window. But if the 25-year-old Spanish international stays put at the Mestalla going into the 2022/23 season, Barcelona could be in contention to sign him in a Bosman move next year.
