Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford, with Serie A giants Juventus interested.

According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Manchester United are unwilling to offer David de Gea a contract renewal, and the Spaniard is being monitored by Serie A giants Juventus ahead of the 2023 summer transfer window.

The 31-year-old will be a free agent at the end of the season, and it will be interesting to see if he ends up at Juventus. The Spaniard has been an exceptional servant for Manchester United since joining the club from Atletico Madrid under Sir Alex Ferguson. However, there is no doubt that de Gea has regressed over the years, and the Red Devils are now looking to replace him.

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak as a potential alternative. The Red Devils recently signed Martin Dubravka from Newcastle United, and they were linked with the likes of Kevin Trapp as well.

Meanwhile, the latest reports have linked Jordan Pickford with a potential move to Manchester United. So it is quite evident that the Premier League giants are looking to sort out their goalkeeping situation, and it remains to be seen how the situation develops.

Despite his regression, de Gea remains a quality goalkeeper who is unlikely to have any shortage of suitors next summer. Furthermore, the Manchester United veteran will have the opportunity to negotiate a free transfer for the summer through a pre-contract agreement when the year turns.

Juventus are looking to bring in a quality alternative to Wojciech Szczesny, whose contract expires in 2024. And the Spanish international could be a superb acquisition for the Serie A giants. Furthermore, his contract situation at Manchester United means that Juventus might be able to sign him on a free transfer next summer. The Spaniard could thus be a bargain for them.

De Gea would be coming in with a wealth of experience, and he has won several trophies during the course of his career. As Juventus look to re-establish themselves as the top dogs in Italian football, signing a veteran like de Gea could be invaluable to the dressing room. Apart from his quality as a goalkeeper, the Spaniard will bring leadership qualities and winning experience.

Signing a player like de Gea on a free transfer could end up proving to be a masterstroke from the Serie A giants. Juventus have a tendency of snapping up bargains in the transfer market, and it remains to be seen whether they can pull off the Manchester United goalkeeper’s acquisition.
