Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing 20-year-old Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo, a target for Chelsea.

According to a report from Football Insider, Liverpool are prepared to submit a deadline day offer for Moises Caicedo. The 20-year-old Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder is also a target for Premier League rivals Chelsea.

Moises Caicedo joined Brighton & Hove Albion back in 2021 for a fee of around £4.5 million, and he has established himself as a key player for the Seagulls this season. The Ecuadorian international has been a regular starter for Graham Potter’s side so far this season, and he was outstanding against the likes of Manchester United and West Ham earlier on in the season.

It is no secret that Liverpool need to add more depth to their central midfield department, and Caicedo could prove to be a quality long-term acquisition. Meanwhile, Chelsea are looking to sign the youngster as well and it will be interesting to see where he ends up eventually.

Liverpool have had a number of injury issues in central midfield, with the likes of Thiago Alcantara, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita sidelined right now. Furthermore, Jordan Henderson and James Milner are in poor form, and bringing in a central midfielder could be defining for Liverpool’s season.

The chance to join a club like Liverpool or Chelsea is likely to be a tempting proposition for the young central midfielder. But he has a long-term contract with Brighton, and the Seagulls are unlikely to let him leave for cheap.

The midfielder’s suitors will have to pay well over the odds to convince Brighton to sell the player this late in the window. Caicedo can operate as a defensive midfielder as well as a central midfielder, and he will add presence, drive and technical ability to the Liverpool and Chelsea midfield.

The Ecuadorian international is a prodigious talent who has a massive feature ahead of him and working with world-class managers like Thomas Tuchel or Jurgen Klopp could help him fulfil his tremendous potential.

With the transfer deadline inching closer to its conclusion, both Liverpool and Chelsea will have to move swiftly if they want to secure the Brighton midfielder’s services for this season. Liverpool have already agreed on a loan deal to sign Arthur from Juventus.
