Memphis Depay’s move to Serie A has collapsed, with Juventus ending interest in the Barcelona attacker by reportedly pursuing Arkadiusz Milik.
According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Memphis Depay’s proposed move to Juventus is no longer possible. The Serie A giants have ended their interest in the Barcelona attacker, as they are using their budget to sign Arkadiusz Milik and Leandro Paredes in the ongoing transfer window.
Memphis Depay has reached a crossroads in his career, as his next move is unclear. The Dutch international is surplus to requirements at Camp Nou, with Barcelona keen on offloading him before the summer transfer window shuts down to register Jules Kounde in La Liga.
The 28-year-old seemed destined to join Juventus for a long time, with Barcelona even agreeing to terminate his contract to felicitate a smooth departure. But talks between Depay and the Serie A giants stalled in the last few days, which raised Barcelona’s concerns over his future.
Depay, who ended the 2021/22 campaign as Barcelona’s top scorer with 13 goals, can consider himself unfortunate, as the arrivals of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Ferran Torres, Raphinha, and Robert Lewandowski have pushed him to the bottom of the pecking order. But the Dutch attacker might not have been fretting much as a move to Juventus seemed possible.

However, once talks stalled, the problems started mounting for Depay, with Juventus identifying Arkadiusz Milik as an alternative to the Barcelona attacker. Initial reports had claimed that Depay had changed his wage demands, thus leaving the Serie A giants with second thoughts about pursuing him.
Other reports also suggested that Juventus had been preparing a final offer to convince Depay to move to the Allianz Stadium. But the Barcelona attacker’s proposed move to Serie A has collapsed, as the Serie A heavyweights want to use their remaining summer budget to sign Milik and Leandro Paredes.
Fabrizio Romano has also added that Depay did not change his wage demands and Juventus simply started to focus on alternatives. The 28-year-old is now in the lurch at Camp Nou. But with Manchester United reportedly keen on signing him, it will be interesting to see if Depay seals his exit from Barcelona.
