Everton are reportedly targeting Leandro Trossard to reinforce their attack and possibly as a replacement for Chelsea target Anthony Gordon.
According to Football Insider, Everton have set their sights on Leandro Trossard as the ideal replacement in their attacking lineup, as Anthony Gordon’s transfer to Chelsea looms large. The 27-year-old Belgian wide man has a year left on his contract at Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion, who could accept a sizeable offer.
Many have been left surprised by Brighton & Hove Albion’s start to the season. The Seagulls lost two of their influential stars, Yves Bissouma and Marc Cucurella, in the summer, and yet they were able to begin the campaign stunningly.
Brighton have defeated Manchester United and West Ham United away from home while managing a draw with Newcastle United. Much of the credit has been reserved for manager Graham Potter and his delicate setup, although another vital departure could severely dent their hopes for the season.
Two of their important players are linked with a move away. Moises Caicedo is attracting interest from top Premier League clubs, while Leandro Trossard is in danger of an exit. The latter has a year left on his contract at Brighton, with Everton considering a move for the Belgian international.
The 27-year-old wide man was the subject of interest from Arsenal earlier in the window. But the Gunners have since cooled the pursuit as they are targeting a younger player with a different style of play. There is no indication regarding a new contract for the Belgian international at the Amex Stadium, which has fueled speculation regarding his future.
Everton consider Trossard a viable option for their attack. The severe injury to Dominic Calvert-Lewin and the departure of Richarlison to Tottenham have depleted Everton’s forward options. Brighton would ideally like to keep the 27-year-old wide man, but a sizeable offer could tempt them into changing their thinking. Everton could use funds from Gordon’s sale to acquire Trossard from their fellow Premier League club, which would significantly improve the Toffees’ attacking options.
Trossard has played over 100 games for Brighton since arriving at the Premier League club. The winger has scored around 19 goals and provided 11 assists during his time with Brighton. He could look for a new challenge, although he may have been hoping to make a move to a much bigger side than Everton.
