Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly wants a move to Borussia Dortmund as he hopes to play in the Champions League this season.

According to BILD, Cristiano Ronaldo may have offered himself to Borussia Dortmund in a bid to continue playing for a Champions League team. The period of discontent continues for the 37-year-old superstar at Manchester United as an exit looms large before the transfer window shuts.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been at the centre of the turmoil at Manchester United, as the 37-year-old superstar is adamant about a departure. Things began to unravel before pre-season training when the Portugal captain expressed his intention to depart.

The core reason is the lack of Champions League football at Old Trafford. Ronaldo, the all-time top scorer in the premier European competition, does not want to play in the Europa League in the final few years of his career. The forward wants to play at the top level and continue improving his competition record.

Coincidentally, Manchester United have endured a disastrous start to their domestic season after consecutive losses to Brighton and Brentford. Ronaldo is understood to be keen on departing the club at all costs, and his agent Jorge Mendes has been working hard for months to find a solution.

There were talks about signing for Chelsea, who could end up signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the coming days. Meanwhile, there was talk about a move to Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid, but those links have since died down.

With a lack of viable options around the 37-year-old, there were indications that he may stay put. Contrary to reports, Ronaldo wants Manchester United to release him and let him continue his football elsewhere.

Borussia Dortmund’s name has emerged as a possible destination for the Portuguese. The suggestion is that Ronaldo has offered himself to the Bundesliga giants to continue playing Champions League football. However, there has been no indication from the German side over agreeing to such a move, as they may be unable to balance the situation financially.

Dortmund have lost their summer arrival Sebastian Haller, to an illness for the foreseeable future. They have brought in a new replacement for the Frenchman in the form of Anthony Modeste. But signing a player of Ronaldo’s quality and star power would be a huge coup for the Black and Yellows.

Whether Ronaldo gets his wish to leave Manchester United and sign for a club like Dortmund remains to be seen. There are other sides where he could go, with his former club Sporting CP said to be interested, but a return to Lisbon might not appeal to the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.
