Merseyside giants Everton are reportedly intensifying their efforts to secure the services of 26-year-old Southampton striker Che Adams this summer.

According to a report by Daily Telegraph, Che Adams has become a top target for Everton in the ongoing transfer window. The 26-year-old Southampton striker could depart from St. Mary’s this month, with the Merseyside club looking to secure his services by ramping up talks with the Saints.

Che Adams spent his formative years with four English clubs before graduating from the Oadby Town academy nearly a decade ago. The Scottish international earned his first-team breakthrough at Sheffield United before growing in stature following his move to Birmingham City half a dozen years ago.

The 26-year-old got his first taste of Premier League football upon joining Southampton from Birmingham City in July 2019 and has blown hot and cold since then. Adams has 21 goals and 12 assists in 111 appearances for the Saints and has seen his stature reduce in 2022. But he is a top target for several Premier League clubs, including Everton.

The interest from Everton stems from the departure of Richarlison, who joined Tottenham Hotspur earlier this summer. In addition, Frank Lampard’s woes worsened at the onset of the 2022/23 season, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin sustaining another frustrating fitness issue this month.

Calvert-Lewin’s absence has left Lampard with Salomon Rondon as the only recognised striker at his disposal. But the Venezuelan attacker has not proven himself capable enough of excelling in the Premier League since joining Everton last summer. Lampard has thus had to utilise Anthony Gordon through the middle in the first two games this season.

So Everton will need to invest in a striker this summer, with several players, including Ludovic Ajorque, emerging on their radar. Adams is also an option worth considering for Everton, with the 26-year-old having three years of experience in the Premier League. And the Toffees are set to ramp up their efforts to sign the Scottish international this summer.

Adams might not kick a fuss about deputising for Calvert-Lewin whenever the English striker is fit. And with Calvert-Lewin’s fitness issues well documented, the 26-year-old will likely feature prominently if talks between Everton and Southampton progress well in the coming days.
