Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain forward Mauro Icardi this summer.

According to TyC Sports, Paris Saint-Germain striker Mauro Icardi has been told by new manager Christophe Galtier to find a new club for himself this summer. Manchester United are among the clubs interested in getting the Argentine forward on board, along with Turkish giants Galatasaray.

Manchester United entered the summer transfer window with an eye on signing a world-class centre-forward to replace Edinson Cavani, who left the club last month following the expiration of his contract. There has been uncertainty surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo’s future as well.

However, following Anthony Martial’s return to form in the pre-season, Manchester United seemingly put their pursuit of a striker on the back burner. But the Frenchman suffered an injury just before the start of the Premier League season, leaving Erik ten Hag with no option but to start with Christian Eriksen as a false nine, with Ronaldo on the bench.

While with every passing day, it looks likelier that the Portuguese superstar will stay put at the club, Manchester United have fast-tracked their search for a striker. Bologna’s Marko Arnautovic had emerged as a surprising transfer target for the club, but widespread backlash from fans forced them out of a potential move for the Austrian international.

Manchester United have now turned their attention towards Mauro Icardi, who does not feature in new PSG manager Christophe Galtier’s plans for the upcoming season. The French giants also have an embarrassment of riches up front, with the likes of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi leading the line.

The 29-year-old, who still has two years left on his contract with the Ligue 1 champions, is training separately from the rest of the squad. Icardi is said to be open to moving to Manchester United, and a loan move with the option of buying the PSG forward permanently next summer could be on the cards.

Galatasaray are also in the mix and are currently in talks with Icardi’s representatives over a possible summer move. The Turkish club are also interested in a loan deal if PSG handle most of the Argentine’s wage. Real Madrid have also been linked with the PSG forward, while Manchester United were reportedly interested in him in the January transfer window as well.
