Anderlecht have rejected Manchester City’s second offer for Sergio Gomez, although discussions are set to continue between the clubs.

According to Sacha Tavolieri, Manchester City’s second bid for Sergio Gomez has been rejected by Anderlecht. The Premier League side reportedly offered €13 million plus €2 million in bonuses and inserted a clause which could have got the Belgian side 12% on any future sale of the left-back. But they have turned down the offer.

Manchester City remain eager to bring in a new left-back before this transfer window closes. After chasing Marc Cucurella for the majority of the window, they failed to negotiate a deal with Brighton and saw the Spaniard sign for Chelsea.

Having already sold Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal, Pep Guardiola intends to sign a new left-back as a priority. The Premier League champions seemed to have found a solution in recent weeks as Sergio Gomez emerged on their radar.

Manchester City have been in talks with Anderlecht for Gomez, who reportedly want €15 million to sell the 21-year-old Spaniard. The Cityzens’ latest offer was close to the asking price. However, according to Sacha Tavolieri, the Belgian side have rejected the bid from the Premier League. Despite the setback, the two clubs are expected to continue discussions to find a reasonable outcome.

Manchester City reportedly bid €13 million plus €2 million in bonuses while offering 12% on a future sale. On paper, the offer matches Anderlecht’s reported asking price, although the Belgian side may be looking for a bigger share in fixed payments as part of the deal.

Gomez is eager to join Manchester City and has already agreed on personal terms with Manchester City over a four-year contract. The Premier League side initially planned on loaning the left-back to Girona but have since shelved those plans and decided to keep the player in their first team squad.

Manchester City are expected to return with a fresh bid in the coming days as they might look to wrap up a move as soon as possible and bring Gomez to the Etihad to make him a part of his squad. In case an agreement is not reached between the two clubs, the Premier League champions could turn their attention towards other targets such as Borna Sosa of VfB Stuttgart.
