West Ham United have reportedly tabled an offer for PSG centre-back Thilo Kehrer as they look for reinforcements amidst an injury crisis.

According to Sky Sports, West Ham United have made their first move to sign German defender Thilo Kehrer from Paris Saint-Germain by submitting an offer to secure his services.

Having come through the ranks at FC Schalke 04, Kehrer signed for PSG in the summer transfer window of 2018. He has been a fairly steady performer for Les Parisiens over the past four years without really standing out. The 25-year-old has made 128 appearances for the French champions, scoring four and assisting two goals.

A versatile operator, Kehrer has shown that he is capable of playing at centre-back or right-back and has occasionally done the job as a defensive midfielder as well. However, with his contract expiring next summer, the German international is seeking an exit from Parc des Princes as he seeks to play more regularly ahead of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar later this year.

PSG, for their part, would be open to a sale as they are chasing fresh defensive reinforcements, having had their sights set on players like Wesley Fofana of Leicester City and Inter Milan’s Milan Skriniar. Kehrer’s potential availability this summer has alerted West Ham United, who have now made their first move to try and sign the 25-year-old defender.

West Ham United have strengthened their backline this summer with the capture of Nayef Aguerd. However, David Moyes’ side have been struck down by injury issues in the defensive department as Aguerd is sidelined for a significant amount of time while veteran star Angelo Ogbonna is yet to return to full fitness after a long-term knee injury.

Craig Dawson is also out with an injury, while Issa Diop is on his way out of the club, meaning Moyes has just Kurt Zouma as the only fit and available senior defender at his disposal. Hence, the Hammers are intent on adding another centre-half before the transfer window closes, which has seen them get linked to several players in the market, with Kehrer also emerging as a target.

West Ham United have now submitted an offer to PSG for Kehrer, although the report does not mention the value of the bid made. They are now waiting for a response from the Ligue 1 champions but have lined up other alternatives if they fail in their pursuit of the German international.
