Barcelona have reportedly made a formal enquiry for 25-year-old AS Monaco full-back Caio Henrique.

According to reputed Italian journalist Gianluigi Longari, Barcelona are exploring the possibility of signing AS Monaco left-back Caio Henrique and have made a formal enquiry over a possible move in the ongoing transfer window. The Ligue 1 giants, on the other hand, are preparing a new offer for the 25-year-old Brazilian defender.

Barcelona are keen to add reinforcements in the left-back department, with 33-year-old Jordi Alba and 18-year-old Alex Balde their only two options for the spot. The Catalan giants have been heavily linked with a move for Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso, with talks reportedly ongoing between the involved parties.

It seems the Blaugrana are willing to be prepared for any possible alternative signing should they miss out on Alonso, as they did with their move for Cesar Azpilicueta. The Spaniard ended up signing a new two-year contract with the Blues, snubbing Barcelona in the process.

AS Monaco’s Caio Henrique has emerged as a potential signing for Barcelona. Some earlier reports had claimed that Barcelona were ready to open talks with the 25-year-old over a summer move. The Brazilian left-back is expected to cost around €25 million to the Blaugrana.

However, signing Henrique might not be very straightforward. He still has three years left on his contract, and AS Monaco are preparing to offer him a new contract, acknowledging his recent performances. Last season, the 25-year-old left-back scored twice and provided nine assists in 34 Ligue 1 appearances.

Henrique can play as a wing-back as well, and interestingly, was also fielded as an attacking midfielder in a league match against Nantes last season. In his two-year stint with Monaco, the Brazilian defender has played 86 matches, scoring two goals while providing 18 assists.

His attacking prowess has impressed Barcelona, who could make a summer move for the 25-year-old defender. The Catalan club are currently in talks with Manchester City’s attacking midfielder Bernardo Silva over a summer move as well.

The Portuguese international will add to a host of new top signings. Barcelona have signed the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie in the ongoing transfer window thus far. It will be interesting to see if Caio Henrique arrives at Camp Nou anytime soon.
