Newcastle United are reportedly considering launching a fresh bid for Everton winger Anthony Gordon before the transfer window closes.

According to Chronicle Live, Newcastle United are planning a fresh approach for Everton winger Anthony Gordon after having been rebuffed by the Toffees earlier this summer.

Gordon is a product of the Everton youth academy and has been in and around the first-team picture for a couple of seasons now. However, it was during the 2021/22 campaign that the 21-year-old made a huge impression, emerging as one of the few positives in a dismal season for the Toffees.

Gordon finished the previous season with a tally of four goals and three assists from 40 games in all competitions. And while the numbers do not stand out, the 21-year-old caught the eyes with his pace, dynamism and his ability to make things happen in the final third of the pitch. It led to interest from Tottenham early in the summer, although those rumours have died down in recent weeks.

Newcastle United, though, have shown a strong interest in signing Gordon from Everton and even tabled a bid worth £35 million for the youngster, which was shot down by Everton. However, as per the report, they are now planning to return with an improved offer for the 21-year-old winger.

Newcastle United made a fine start to the new season, beating Nottingham Forest 2-0 in their opening fixture. Allan Saint-Maximin and Callum Wilson were in their elements on the day and made vital contributions to the result. However, it is not lost on Eddie Howe & co. that they can be overdependent on the duo to produce the goods in the final third of the pitch.

Hence, Newcastle United are looking to bring in a new winger and a centre-forward before the transfer window closes. Gordon, to that end, has been one of the Tyneside outfit’s top targets. They are also considering a move for James Maddison but have seen a much larger bid being rejected by Leicester City, which is why the focus is back on Gordon.

Recent reports have indicated that the 21-year-old prospect, who played in a central position this past weekend against Chelsea, would be open to joining the Magpies. Everton require some urgent cash injection as they need to bring in a few more new faces into the squad, which might force their hand if Newcastle return with an improved offer for Gordon.
