La Liga heavyweights Barcelona have reportedly opened talks with Lionel Messi’s entourage over a possible Bosman move in 2023.

According to reputed Spanish journalist Miquel Blazquez, Barcelona and Lionel Messi are already discussing a possible Bosman move in the 2023 summer transfer window. But the Argentine attacker’s entourage has reportedly rejected such claims, insisting he is focused on excelling for Paris Saint-Germain.

Lionel Messi shocked the football world when he tearfully left Barcelona as a free agent after the Blaugrana failed to officiate his contract extension due to La Liga’s Financial Fair Play regulations. The 35-year-old is inarguably the greatest-ever player in Barcelona’s long and storied history, with his eye-watering record of 672 goals and 301 assists in 778 appearances unlikely to be matched.

Messi joined Paris Saint-Germain following his emotional departure from Barcelona. But he did not enjoy the best debut season at Parc des Princes, as he was not as prolific as he had been in the decade and a half before joining PSG. While a tally of 11 goals and 15 assists in 34 appearances is acceptable for most players, it is sub-par for Messi.

But Messi has brilliantly started the 2022/23 season, producing a near-perfect display in PSG’s thumping win over Clermont Foot. However, Messi has entered the final year of his contract with Les Parisiens, and his future is uncertain again, with Barcelona keen on bringing him back to Camp Nou in the 2023 summer transfer window.

Recent reports claimed that Xavi Hernandez has asked Joan Laporta to re-sign Messi for the final years of the Argentine international’s career. The Barcelona president has also hinted that he will attempt to bring Messi back to Camp Nou, suggesting he “owes” it to the 35-year-old attacking wizard.

According to Miquel Blazquez, Barcelona and Messi are already discussing a possible Bosman move in the 2023 summer transfer window, with the player open to returning to Camp Nou. But according to Mundo Deportivo, Messi has not opened talks with Barcelona over returning to the Catalan club.

So amid conflicting reports, one thing that remains certain is that Barcelona will look to secure the services of the 35-year-old attacker in the 2023 summer transfer window. It will be interesting to see if Messi is receptive to returning to Camp Nou next year if he runs down his contract with PSG.
