Chelsea are reportedly in contact with 26-year-old Inter Milan wide man Denzel Dumfries’s entourage over a possible summer move.

According to a report by Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport, Chelsea are stepping up their interest in Denzel Dumfries and are in contact with the entourage of the Dutch wide man over a possible move in the ongoing transfer window. The Blues have been on the lookout for a right-back to reinforce in the defensive department.

It was believed that Chelsea were on the hunt for a right-back as Cesar Azpilicueta was nearing an exit from Stamford Bridge, with Barcelona his preferred destination. However, the Spaniard eventually ended up extending his contract with the Blues and snubbed Barcelona.

However, Chelsea continue to be in search of a wing-back to play on the right side of their defence. Reece James will probably be Thomas Tuchel’s first choice to take that position, and the club want to sign another player to add depth.

Dumfries has emerged as an option, and the Blues have had a long-standing interest in the Dutch wide man. Chelsea have been in the market for him since the start of the ongoing transfer window, but are facing competition from Manchester United.

The Red Devils have Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot as recognised right-backs. But Erik ten Hag has not been hugely impressed by either of them, and Manchester United are thus exploring the market to sign a player for the position.

As far as Dumfries is concerned, the 26-year-old joined Inter just last summer and was quite impressive, making 45 appearances across competitions and scoring five times while assisting seven goals. But amid Inter Milan’s financial issues, they are ready to listen to offers for almost every player in their squad.

Earlier reports had claimed that Inter have asked Chelsea to cough up €50 million for the Dutchman. The Blues reportedly had an offer turned down for Dumfries, who still has three years remaining on his existing contract with the Serie A giants. The 26-year-old is also a regular for the Netherlands and has 35 international caps to his name. He has also scored five goals in those matches.
