Real Madrid have reportedly lodged an enquiry to learn the price tag of OGC Nice star Amine Gouiri as they eye a move for the striker.

According to Defensa Central, Real Madrid have made the first move in their bid to sign Amine Gouiri from OGC Nice this summer by enquiring about the striker’s valuation with the Ligue 1 giants.

Amine Gouiri came through the youth ranks at Lyon and went on to make just 15 senior appearances for Les Gones, failing to score or assist a single goal. The 22-year-old striker moved to Nice two years ago and has since found his goalscoring boots. So far, he has netted 28 goals and set up 18 more from 84 games for his the Ligue 1 club.

Gouiri enjoyed a productive 2021/22 campaign during which he was directly involved in 22 goals from 43 matches across all competitions. His exploits have put him on the radar of Real Madrid, who are in the market for a new centre-forward this summer.

Real Madrid had their sights set on a move for Kylian Mbappe for the longest time, but his decision to stay at PSG has raised a hurdle in Los Blancos’ transfer plans. The reigning Spanish and European champions want to sign a striker to provide cover for Karim Benzema after getting rid of Luka Jovic and Borja Mayoral, while they are also working to offload Mariano Diaz.

Going into the season without a striker as a backup for Benzema could prove to be catastrophic for Real Madrid in case the French international is struck down by an injury. Hence, they are prepared to sign a new centre-forward once they successfully get rid of Mariano, with Gouiri among the options that Carlo Ancelotti is considering.

Gouiri has been on Real Madrid’s radar for quite some time now. Having watched him for a considerable period, Los Blancos have acted on their interest by making an enquiry to Nice to learn their valuation of the 22-year-old striker. Amidst this development, a recent report from L’Equipe claimed that the France Under-21 international is valued at €40 million by the Ligue 1 outfit.

Real Madrid are unlikely to have any problem meeting that figure and are now pondering the possibility of making a move for Gouiri, who can be Benzema’s understudy before eventually taking over from him as the main forward at the Santiago Bernabeu. Whether they take their interest in the Nice striker further remains to be seen.
