Harry Winks is a potential target for Sampdoria, although any possible deal would be difficult to imagine as the midfielder wants to remain in England.

According to Tutto Mercato Web, Tottenham star Harry Winks is a target for Sampdoria, who are yet to find a midfielder in this market. While the Italian side hope to assess if a transfer is possible, any deal is considered difficult due to the midfielder’s insistence on staying in England.

Harry Winks has been a steady presence for Tottenham since Mauricio Pochettino managed the club. However, in recent years, his influence has waned as the midfielder finds himself on the periphery of Antonio Conte’s plans. Despite making 19 Premier League appearances last term, Winks has failed to win over the Italian boss’ faith.

The Italian manager has made it clear Winks does not feature in his plans for the upcoming season. Conte left the midfielder behind in north London along with Sergio Reguilon, Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso for Tottenham’s pre-season tour of Korea.

The indications are clear that Spurs are looking to sell the 26-year-old midfielder in this window, with Winks garnering plenty of interest from Premier League sides. He was keen on joining Everton when the Merseysiders were pursuing him earlier.

However, Tottenham’s high asking price has put multiple clubs, including Everton, off the midfielder’s trail. Meanwhile, Sampdoria are now interested in the 26-year-old midfielder, although a deal could be complicated. Sampdoria are looking to strengthen their squad, and a midfielder is deemed a necessary addition.

However, when it comes to Winks, multiple factors point away from a possible transfer to Serie A. For starters, the England star wants to stay in the Premier League and believes a deal with another English club could be struck between now and the end of the window. Secondly, Sampdoria may not be in a position to afford Tottenham’s asking price and also the wages he currently earns.

Winks is looking to resurrect his career and join a club where he plays regularly. He considered Everton as Frank Lampard has been keen on signing him, but things have gone quiet on that front for now, although the Merseysiders could come back with a new proposal.
