Chelsea and Aston Villa have reached an agreement for the transfer of midfield prodigy Carney Chukwuemeka.

As confirmed by the club’s official website, Chelsea have struck an agreement to sign Carney Chukwuemeka from fellow Premier League club Aston Villa. The 18-year-old midfielder has been permitted to travel to London for his medical and contract signing.

Chukwuemeka is widely regarded as one of the most prodigious young talents in England. The 18-year-old has been at Villa since 2016 when he joined from the Northampton Town academy. Having progressed at a rapid rate through the youth ranks, he made his senior debut last year and has since featured 16 times for the Midlands club, registering one assist.

The teenage midfielder was one of the stars for England’s Under-19 side in their successful UEFA European Under-19 Championship earlier this summer, even scoring in the final of the competition against Israel.

Chukwuemeka entered the final year of his contract with Aston Villa this summer and refused to sign an extension offered by the club. It sparked a flurry of interest in his services, with the likes of AC Milan and Barcelona credited with an interest, while Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle United were also keen.

However, out of nowhere, Chelsea have reached an agreement with Aston Villa to sign him. The official statement issued by the west London club read: “Aston Villa and Chelsea can confirm that the clubs have reached an agreement for the permanent transfer of Carney Chukwuemeka. The 18-year-old has been given permission to travel to London to discuss both personal terms and undergo a medical.”

Fabrizio Romano has shed some light on the transfer operation, stating that Chelsea will be paying £15 million to Villa for the signing of Chukwuemeka. The reliable Italian journalist also claims that the 18-year-old will be signing a six-year contract with the Blues, running until the summer of 2028.

Chukwuemeka becomes Chelsea’s third major signing of the summer, following in the footsteps of Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly. The Blues are also closing in on the signing of Marc Cucurella from Brighton & Hove Albion, with personal terms agreed with the Spanish left-back.
