Chelsea have reportedly made contact with Inter Milan for the possible signing of Cesare Casadei and are preparing an offer for the teenager.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Chelsea have identified Inter Milan youngster Cesare Casadei as a transfer target and are putting their efforts into signing the 19-year-old midfielder.
Casadei started at the academy of Cesena before joining Inter Milan’s youth setup in 2018. Having made a huge impression with the Nerazzurri’s Under-17 and Under-18 sides, the teenager has become a regular fixture in their Primavera outfit. He has made 65 appearances for them so far, scoring 24 goals and setting up seven more.
A central midfielder by trade, Casadei has demonstrated great potential with Inter Milan and has been shining brightly for Italy’s youth teams. Currently a part of Azzurri’s Under-19 setup, he has 12 caps to his name, with three goals to show for his efforts.
An exciting goalscoring midfielder, Casadei has seemingly caught the attention of Chelsea, even though he is yet to make a senior appearance for Inter Milan. The Blues allowed Romelu Lukaku to return to Inter Milan on loan earlier this year, and during negotiations over the deal, they also held talks for the signing of Casadei.
The report states that Casadei has caught the attention of Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, with his style likened to that of Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who has been on the Blues’ radars this summer.
Chelsea have a bloated midfield department as it is, but there could be openings at Stamford Bridge as both N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are in the final year of their contracts. The former has endured injury issues while the latter continues to be linked with a move to Juventus. Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are likely to be allowed to leave this summer, while Billy Gilmour could leave on loan.
Thus, there could be room for another midfielder in the ranks, and a prospect like Casadei can be an exciting signing. Tuchel has shown in the past that he is not afraid of putting youngsters into the spotlight if they have the potential. Chelsea are said to be in talks with Inter Milan and preparing an offer for the teenager.
However, Inter Milan do not wish to offload Casadei, who has two years left on his contract. But with their poor financial situation, a sizeable offer from Chelsea could convince the Italians to part ways with the prodigious midfielder.
