Chelsea are interested in Milan Skriniar, having held talks with intermediaries to understand the details of a potential move to Stamford Bridge.

According to Calciomercato, Inter Milan are open to selling a few of their stars, including Milan Skriniar, with Chelsea keen on signing the Slovakian defender. The Serie A giants want at least €70 million, but the Blues consider his valuation at around €50 million as both clubs try to reach a middle ground.

Milan Skriniar has been high on the list of some of the biggest clubs on the continent. Paris Saint-Germain fruitlessly tried to lure the Slovakian defender out of Inter Milan, only to find it difficult to convince Inter Milan to lower their €70 million asking rate.

Tottenham were also interested before they secured the loan signing of Clement Lenglet from Barcelona. However, gauging Inter Milan’s financial conditions, they need to sell players and reportedly raise at least €60 million in this window, and Skriniar is one of the primary sales prospects.

The Slovak has a year left on his deal at San Siro, yet Inter Milan continue to value him at €70 million this summer. Chelsea are the latest contenders to enquire about the Slovakian defender’s availability and have reportedly held talks with the Serie A giants over a possible move.

The report suggests a well-known intermediary named Paolo Busardo has been tasked with finding a solution to sell some of Inter Milan’s players. Chelsea reportedly held talks with this individual over a potential move for Skriniar, although the Blues only value him at €50 million.

Chelsea desperately need to reinforce their defence with quality and experienced stars. Having lost Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen as free agents in this window, they have only managed to sign Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli as a replacement.

The west Londoners have failed with attempts to sign several other high-profile stars, including Matthijs de Ligt, Nathan Ake, and Jules Kounde, who has chosen to join Barcelona instead. Thomas Tuchel does not have much faith in his younger defenders, such as Malang Sarr, Trevoh Chalobah, and Levi Colwill, to lead the charge for an entire season.

Hence there is a need for a quality name to be added, and Skriniar is one of their targets. However, Chelsea are facing a similar problem that PSG encountered, as Inter Milan are adamant over their €70 million valuation. The report claims the Serie A giants could reach a middle ground, and a deal could be closed at €60 million if the conditions are right.

As things stand, Chelsea could accelerate their pursuit of the Slovakian international and bring in a much-needed defender before the season begins. The big issue would be paying over the odds for a player available on a free transfer next summer.
