Manchester United are preparing an offer to sign Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Manchester United have identified Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries as their next signing and are stepping up efforts to sign the Netherlands international. The Red Devils are eager to improve significantly this summer to be prepared for the next season.
Dumfries just signed for Nerazzurri last summer following the departure of Achraf Hakimi to Paris Saint-Germain. But Inter Milan are still open to selling him in the 2022 window if the correct bid arrives.
Dumfries still has three years remaining on his contract and Inter are holding out for at least €40 million, and it is still unclear whether the Red Devils are prepared to spend that much for the right-back, who can also play as a wing-back and can be of special interest to Erik ten Hag, who could try a three-at-the-back system at Old Trafford.
The Dutch tactician has Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka as the two right-back options, and the latter does not feature extensively in the former Ajax manager’s plans. Wan-Bissaka could thus be offloaded this summer, while the Portuguese could stay on at the club beyond this summer.
Jose Mourinho’s Roma have been linked with a move for the Englishman, whereas his former club Crystal Palace are also considering a loan deal for the defender. Wan-Bissaka’s potential departure would open up a spot in the position, with ten Hag in search of a top-class right-back.
Dumfries, to that end, has emerged as a prospective target, with the report now claiming that Manchester United are preparing an offer to sign the 26-year-old Netherlands international.
Dumfries was offered to Chelsea as well, as per the aforementioned report, with Inter trying to include him in a potential deal to sign Romelu Lukaku from the Blues. However, as things stand, Manchester United are said to be the favourites to sign Dumfries, although it remains to be seen if they are willing to match the Serie A giants’ €40 million asking price.
