Brighton & Hove Albion full-back Marc Cucurella is pushing for a move to Manchester City this summer.

According to Italian football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Brighton & Hove Albion left-back Marc Cucurella is keen to join Manchester City this summer and is pushing for a move to the Etihad. The Premier League champions have been exploring the market for a left-back and have made Cucurella their primary target.

Oleksandr Zinchenko is set to complete his move to Arsenal, opening a slot in the left-back department at Manchester City. The Premier League champions’ issues in that area have been long-standing as Pep Guardiola has had to play Joao Cancelo, who is primarily a right-back, and Zinchenko, who prefers playing in the midfield, in the position.

Guardiola is said to be a big admirer of Cucurella, who is a former Barcelona youth player, and sees him as the perfect solution to his left-back woes. The Spanish full-back was quite impressive in his first and only year in England, which has convinced the Manchester City board to make a move for him.

The 23-year-old joined Brighton just last summer from Getafe and was an instant hit, winning the club’s Player of the Year award. He played 38 matches for them across all competitions, including 35 Premier League starts, and finished with a goal and two assists. Cucurella helped the Seagulls finish in the top half of the top-flight standings.

But the Spanish international might now be heading towards the exit door, with Manchester City intensifying their efforts. And Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Cucurella is pushing for a move to the Etihad and the two clubs are currently in talks over a potential summer deal.

The Premier League champions reportedly submitted an official bid worth £30 million for the defender which was turned down by Brighton. The Seagulls are confident that the left-back is worth much more on the back of a solid season.

With four years remaining on the player’s contract, Brighton are in control of the situation. But Manchester City are not ready to pay over the top for Cucurella and will not spend more than £50 million to bring him to the Etihad this summer.
