AC Milan are reportedly eyeing a loan deal for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pape Matar Sarr this summer.

According to Fabrizio Romano, AC Milan have recently contacted Tottenham about the prospect of signing Pape Matar Sarr. The Serie A champions want to sign the young midfield prodigy on a season-long loan deal, although the two clubs are yet to reach an agreement so far.

Romano suggests the two clubs merely had a casual conversation about the loan deal and had not indulged in an official negotiation just yet. But the interest remains, as AC Milan look to shore up their options in the middle of the park before the new season gets underway.

A product of the famed Generation Foot youth academy in his native Senegal, Sarr made his professional breakthrough at FC Metz during the 2020/21 campaign. In light of his performances, the 19-year-old midfielder earned himsel a big-money move to Tottenham in 2021, although he was immediately sent back to Metz on loan.

The central midfielder continued his development at Metz, featuring in 33 league matches before returning to north London. However, with Tottenham upgrading their options by signing Yves Bissouma in the summer and Rodrigo Bentancur back in January, Sarr’s future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is under a cloud of uncertainty.

That is where AC Milan come into the fray. The Rossoneri are aware of Sarr’s dwindling prospects at Tottenham and are willing to hand the Senegalese prodigy the opportunity to seal regular game-time ahead of the new season.

The Serie A champions have had a busy summer so far, notably losing Franck Kessie on a free transfer. They are also facing a battle to keep hold of midfield phenom Ismael Bennacer amid interest from Manchester United, along with many other clubs in Europe, including his former employer Arsenal.

That has accentuated the need for a new midfielder, with Pape Matar Sarr fitting the bill perfectly. Although the Tottenham prodigy does not have much experience at the highest level of football, he has shown a lot of quality during his time at Metz and may have what it takes to shine at AC Milan.

From a sporting perspective, Sarr could prove to be an ideal replacement for Franck Kessie, who joined Barcelona on a free transfer earlier in the month. However, it remains to be seen whether Tottenham are open to sanctioning a loan deal for the youngster, and a lot could depend on the future of some of the other existing midfielders including Harry Winks and Tanguy Ndombele.
