Barcelona and Liverpool icon Luis Suarez will reportedly not join West Ham United on a free transfer this summer.

Italian football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has written in his column for Caught Offside that former Liverpool and Barcelona striker Luis Suarez will not return to the Premier League with West Ham United this summer. The Hammers are eager to sign a new centre-forward this summer and have been linked with a host of players.

David Moyes’s side just have Michail Antonio as the recognised striker and are thus keen to sign a new centre-forward to lead their line from the 2022/23 season. They have been linked with the likes of Chelsea prospect Armando Broja and Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca.

Luis Suarez, who is now a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Atletico Madrid, has emerged as a potential target for the Hammers as well. Though at 35 years of age, the Barcelona and Liverpool icon is no longer the player that terrorised defences all over Europe, he can still make a significant contribution.

However, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that West Ham have not approached Suarez’s entourage with an offer and are currently discussing a potential move for Broja with Chelsea. But he did add that things could ‘change in a few hours’ in free transfers.

“So far, I have no confirmation on a West Ham proposal for Luis Suarez but with free agents things can change in a few hours,” Romano told Caught Offside.

“For now, the club is busy with the Armando Broja deal, but are waiting for a response from Chelsea. They also haven’t ruled out a move for Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca.”

“Suarez still has many proposals from South America, including Nacional, but he continues to give priority to Europe. He left Atletico Madrid on a free this summer, but I think he still has something to offer at this level.”

Suarez’s previous stint in the Premier League was with Liverpool, for whom he scored 82 goals and provided 46 assists in 133 appearances across competitions. But it looks like the Barcelona legend will not return to Premier League anytime soon, not least with West Ham.
