Alexander Isak will reportedly remain at Real Sociedad beyond the summer transfer window amid interest from La Liga champions Real Madrid.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Alexander Isak will remain at Real Sociedad beyond the summer transfer window. Real Madrid had shown interest in the Swedish striker, but his €60 million price tag is prohibitive for his suitors, with Newcastle United already backing out of the race to sign him.
Alexander Isak has been with Real Sociedad for three years and has gradually risen in stature at the Andalusian club. The 22-year-old is one of the most promising young strikers in La Liga, even though his returns have not been convincing enough in the last few seasons.
The Swedish international turned out 128 times for Real Sociedad while amassing a record of 43 goals and eight assists. But Isak has done enough to capture the attention of several high-profile clubs in Europe, with reigning La Liga champions Real Madrid reportedly among his prospective suitors.
The interest from Real Madrid is surprising, considering Carlo Ancelotti recently insisted that Los Blancos will not sign any more players in the summer transfer window. But the Spanish giants have seen Luka Jovic join Fiorentina, with Mariano Diaz also facing an uncertain future at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The 28-year-old forward has popped up on the radars of several clubs in Spain and beyond, with Cadiz recently registering interest in him. But Real Madrid might not delve into the market for a new striker this summer, even though Jovic has left and Mariano could depart from the Bernabeu soon.
Ancelotti has revealed in his recent comments that he will look to experiment with Eden Hazard and Marco Asensio in central roles. In addition, the Real Madrid boss might promote Juanmi Latasa to the first-team squad, utilising the young striker and Borja Mayoral as backups to Karim Benzema.
So even though Isak had emerged on Real Madrid’s radar, he will remain at La Liga club Real Sociedad. La Real’s €60 million price tag has also left the suitors baulking, with Newcastle United recently backing out of the race to sign the Swede, who looks set to stay at the Reale Arena beyond the summer transfer window.
