Chelsea are reportedly confident of signing Presnel Kimpembe in the coming days, with PSG ready to sell the 26-year-old French defender.

According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea are optimistic about securing the services of Presnel Kimpembe in the coming days as his transfer edges closer. Paris Saint-Germain are open to selling the 26-year-old defender this summer for over £40 million.

Chelsea made a statement of intent by bringing in two seasoned professionals to shore up their squad. Following the departure of Romelu Lukaku, Thomas Tuchel wanted at least one or two names to be added to the attacking unit, and Chelsea have since signed Raheem Sterling.

Having failed in their pursuit of Raphinha despite agreeing on a fee with Leeds United, Chelsea swiftly turned their attention towards the defensive unit. Kalidou Koulibaly’s arrival from Napoli brought them a replacement for Antonio Rudiger, but Tuchel reportedly wants at least two more central defenders before the 2022/23 season begins.

Jules Kounde is another target that interests Chelsea, with a new offer already made to prise him away from Sevilla. The Frenchman’s chase is a bit tricky, with Barcelona seriously considering a move for the Sevilla centre-back. However, stories insist Kounde has agreed on personal terms with the Blues, which should bring the move closer to completion.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have zeroed in on another centre-back in Presnel Kimpembe. The 26-year-old defender is on the market with Paris Saint-Germain ready to make the sale. The quoted fee is slightly over £40 million, with the Evening Standard suggesting it to be at £42 million.

There have been concerns from Kimpembe, who was not very keen on departing from Parc des Princes. But the report claims the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner might have made his mind up after talks with former PSG teammate Thiago Silva and compatriot N’Golo Kante.

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is confident of concluding a deal with PSG in the coming days, with personal terms not understood to be an issue. The next few days would be critical for Kimpembe and his impending move, but Chelsea are confident of getting it over the line, with the £42 million price tag unlikely to deter them.

After they wrap up the Kimpembe signing, Chelsea could refocus on bringing in another attacker or even a midfielder. However, their transfer activity is far from over, as many new names could yet arrive at Stamford Bridge before the summer transfer window slams shut.
