Carney Chukwuemeka, who is a transfer target for Barcelona, is reportedly demanding a contract worth £100,000 per week at Aston Villa.
According to Football Insider, Aston Villa teenage talent Carney Chukwuemeka is seeking a contract worth £100,000-a-week from the Midlands club amid interest from Barcelona.
Chukwuemeka is a product of the Aston Villa youth setup and is widely regarded as one of the brightest talents in England. The midfielder made his first-team debut for the Villans in May last year at the age of 17 and has since featured 16 times, registering a solitary assist.
However, Chukwuemeka has entered the final year of his contract with Aston Villa and has refused to sign the offer proposed by the club so far. It has resulted in manager Steven Gerrard axing the teenage starlet from the squad that has flown away on the pre-season tour.
Amidst the ensuing contract saga, Barcelona have shown an interest in Chukwuemeka. The Catalan giants have been casting their nets to sign the best young talents from across the globe and have already brought in several exciting prospects so far.
Indeed, Barcelona have added Pablo Torre, Nil Ruiz, and Emre Demir, among others already and continue to be on the lookout for more youngsters with promise and potential. Chukwuemeka, to that end, has emerged as a target after his performances for the England national team at the UEFA Under-19 European Championships earlier this summer.
Reports have claimed that Barcelona have already started negotiations with Aston Villa over a possible move, although they are not the only club interested in the 18-year-old. On top of that, there is also the chance of Chukwuemeka signing a new deal with the Premier League side.
However, for that to happen, Villa will have to offer £100,000 per week to the England youth international, which is considered very high by the club, especially considering that he has made just two starts in the Premier League so far in his career.
It is highly unlikely that Chukwuemeka would get such a deal even if he were to swap Aston Villa for Barcelona. However, PSG are also interested in the teenager and would be in a position to offer him such a lucrative contract.
