Tottenham are open to allowing Japhet Tanganga out on loan as AC Milan step up their pursuit of the versatile English defender.

According to Sky Sports, AC Milan have opened talks with Tottenham to sign Japhet Tanganga. The north Londoners are ready to allow him to leave on loan, with plenty of interest coming from Premier League sides as well in the versatile defender.

Japhet Tanganga showed signs of being a valuable asset after putting in tremendous performances at the start of last season. However, since the dismissal of Nuno Espirito Santo and the subsequent arrival of Antonio Conte, the versatile defender has seen far lesser game time, while injuries have not been kind to him either.

Conte is on course to make multiple changes to his squad ahead of the new season, and Tanganga could be allowed to leave. However, with three years left on his contract, Spurs are not overly keen to sell him but are open to letting him join another club on loan.

Such a move makes complete sense from Tottenham’s perspective. If Tanganga is to perform well during his loan spell, Spurs could see his value retained or even increased next summer. But, for now, they are relaxed about the versatile defender’s situation as they brace themselves for temporary offers.

AC Milan are interested in the Englishman and have reportedly held talks with Tanganga’s camp over a potential move. The Serie A champions want to help Tanganga develop further and have shown him a route taken by former Chelsea star Fikayo Tomori, who has since become an England international.

Having now started negotiations with Tottenham, the Serie A champions could put forward an offer for Tanganga in the coming days but face competition from many other Premier League sides. Everton and Southampton have expressed an interest, while there could be more teams willing to take him.

Spurs may decide on the viability of the offer and where Tanganga gets regular playing time. At Spurs, he is unlikely to get any playing time considering the club signed Clement Lenglet on a season-long loan deal from Barcelona and will bring in Djed Spence as well.

Conte does not count on Tanganga and will be happy to facilitate a move for the versatile defender. Whether he joins AC Milan or any other interested clubs from the Premier League will be the question.
