Chelsea no longer remain interested in signing Cristiano Ronaldo as Thomas Tuchel reportedly disapproved of any prospective move.

According to The Athletic, Chelsea have pulled out of the race to sign Cristiano Ronaldo as Thomas Tuchel is prioritising strengthening other areas of the squad. The Portuguese superstar had been meaning to leave Manchester United for a Champions League side, but it seems the search with his agent could continue.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at Manchester United continues to linger on in uncertain terms, as the striker has his heart set on a departure from Old Trafford. And despite the club holding firm on their stance the player is not for sale, the Red Devils could be open to sanctioning a move.

Ronaldo declared his intention to depart Manchester United after the club failed to qualify for the Champions League. The Portuguese superstar wants to continue playing in Europe’s premier competition as he enters the twilight years of his career. The club’s lack of activity in the transfer market when all their rivals have strengthened their squads is another concern for the 37-year-old.

Bayern Munich had been touted as a possible destination, but their chairman Oliver Kahn ruled out a move for Ronaldo, leaving Chelsea as the only viable club to make sense for the striker. His agent Jorge Mendes had discussions with the Blues’ new owner Todd Boehly as the Stamford Bridge side pondered making an offer.

However, in light of recent business conducted by the club, including signing Raheem Sterling from Manchester City, Thomas Tuchel wants to emphasise team building than focusing on individuals.

The Chelsea boss had been reluctant to sanction a move for Ronaldo, despite the departure of record signing Romelu Lukaku after just one season in his second stint. The Belgian’s exit does open up a vacancy for a new striker, but the Blues’ manager has other ideas.

As things stand, Chelsea have pulled out of the race to sign Ronaldo as they continue to focus on bringing in defenders ahead of the next season. They have agreed on a move for Kalidou Koulibaly and could wrap up Nathan Ake’s signing soon. They are still in the chase for a new winger after missing out on Raphinha, who joined Barcelona.

A move for Ronaldo is all but ruled out, meaning the Portuguese star will have to continue looking at other possibilities before the transfer window shuts. Of course, there’s always the option of staying put at Manchester United, which would mean Ronaldo will compete in the Europa League next season.
