Barcelona defender Mika Marmol is reportedly unwilling to join Girona this summer as he is unsure about the game-time he will get at the La Liga club.

According to Catalunya Radio, Barcelona youngster Mika Marmol has an offer to join newly-promoted La Liga club Girona on loan but is ready to turn it down.

Marmol is a product of Barcelona’s youth academy and has been an impressive performer for the club’s Atletic team. The 21-year-old left-footed centre-back made his senior debut for the Blaugrana towards the backend of the 2021/22 campaign and is currently involved in the pre-season with Xavi’s first team.

However, with Barcelona signing Andreas Christensen and pushing to land Jules Kounde from Sevilla, Marmol is unlikely to find regular game-time at Camp Nou. The 21-year-old is keen on playing first-team football to gain experience and continue his development. So, a loan move away looks like a strong possibility for the Spanish defender.

And, as per the report, newly-promoted La Liga club Girona have tabled a proposal to sign Marmol on loan for the upcoming season. The Catalan outfit are back in the top flight via playoffs and are intent on strengthening the roster to ensure their survival in La Liga beyond next season.

To that end, Girona have identified Mika Marmol as a possible target and have sent in an offer to sign the 21-year-old on a season-long loan. But as per the report, the Barcelona academy product is uninterested in joining their Catalan rivals this summer.

The report claims that Marmol is not convinced about the game-time he would receive at Girona as they already have a well-established centre-back contingent comprising Santi Bueno, Bernardo Espinosa and Juanpe. Hence, the 21-year-old Barcelona prospect has decided to snub a move to the Catalan club.

Instead, the report states that Mika Marmol and his camp could consider a move to a second division club where he would stand a chance of accumulating regular playing minutes. It remains to be seen as to what lies in store for the 21-year-old prospect. But a loan move away from Camp Nou could be a smart move for the defender.
