La Liga champions Real Madrid are reportedly ready to cut their losses on 31-year-old Belgian forward Eden Hazard this summer.

According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Eden Hazard’s stint with Real Madrid might be on the verge of ending in the summer transfer window. The reigning La Liga champions are ready to sell the 31-year-old forward, with Carlo Ancelotti giving the green light to execute his sale.

Eden Hazard joined Real Madrid from Chelsea in July 2019 when he was one of the best players in Europe. The Belgian international was coming off his most productive campaign in professional football as he singlehandedly guided the Blues to the top four in the Premier League while helping them win the UEFA Europa League in the 2018/19 season.

So the hype surrounding Hazard was enormous as the 31-year-old looked to be a long-term solution in the final third for Los Blancos. Hazard was supposedly arriving at Real Madrid at the peak of his powers, and it seemed only a matter of time before he established himself as a talismanic figure for the Spanish club.

But injuries and subsequent poor form have hampered Hazard considerably, and he is currently a shell of the player who joined Real Madrid three years ago. The former Chelsea star has become a pivotal figure under Carlo Ancelotti, who barely utilised him in the 2021/22 season. Hazard’s tally does not make for good reading, as he has a paltry record of six goals and ten assists in 66 outings for Real Madrid.

Despite his struggles, he has maintained that he can make a meaningful contribution to Real Madrid’s success. And recent reports had suggested that Ancelotti might utilise Hazard more in the upcoming season, with Real Madrid choosing not to delve into the market to bring in a replacement Gareth Bale.

But according to Calciomercato, the reigning La Liga champions have deemed Hazard surplus to requirements, with Ancelotti giving the green light for his sale. The 31-year-old forward has previously attracted interest from clubs outside Spain, with Borussia Dortmund among his suitors.

AC Milan also seemed interested in signing Hazard, but the Serie A champions are now focusing on signing Marco Asensio. As for the Belgian international, it will be interesting to see what the future has in store for him. But if a club does not show any interest, Hazard might end up remaining at Real Madrid heading into the 2022/23 season.
