Barcelona defender Mika Marmol has reportedly emerged as a prospective loan target for UD Las Palmas in the ongoing transfer window.

According to journalist Josep Capdevila, Barcelona youngster Mika Marmol has popped up on the radars of Spanish second division side UD Las Palmas, with the club hoping to sign him on loan this summer.

Mika Marmol is a product of Barcelona’s famed La Masia youth academy, having joined the Catalans’ setup in 2018 from Jabac. A regular for Barça’s second team over the past couple of seasons, the 21-year-old has made 63 appearances for them, scoring three goals and setting up one more. He made his first-team debut for the Blaugrana in May earlier this year, coming on as a substitute in a La Liga game.

Even though he is held in high regard within the club, Mika Marmol is unlikely to get a shot at regular game-time at Camp Nou considering that Barcelona already have a plethora of centre-backs and are pushing to sign Jules Kounde. A loan move could thus be on the cards for the 21-year-old this summer.

And as per the report from Josep Capdevila, Las Palmas are ready to provide the young defender with an opportunity at regular first-team football. Los Amarillos have done business with Barcelona in the past, having sold Pedri to the Catalan heavyweights a few years ago.

Barcelona are now negotiating with the Canary Islands outfit for the signing of Alberto Moleiro, with the Spanish prodigy likely to return to Estadio Gran Canaria on loan for the upcoming campaign.

Las Palmas are seemingly planning to take advantage of the good relationship between the two clubs to try and sign Mika Marmol on loan for the upcoming campaign. However, the 21-year-old’s current contract with the Catalans runs out in 2023. So, if Barcelona are willing to let him out on leave, they would first have to hand him an extension.

With no spot in Xavi Hernandez’s squad at Barcelona, a loan move could be the best option for Mika Marmol so that he can play regularly and gain first-team experience. The 21-year-old can benefit from the stint, even if it will be in the second division.
