Premier League newcomers Fulham are eyeing a summer move for Coventry City defensive midfielder Gustavo Hamer.

According to The Sun, Premier League new boys Fulham are considering a move for Coventry City midfielder Gustavo Hamer in the ongoing summer transfer window.

Marco Silva’s side blitzed their way through the EFL Championship last season, once again earning themselves a place in the English top-flight. Given their recent lack of success in the Premier League, it is obvious that they will need to bring in reinforcements for the season that lies ahead.

One player on their radar is Hamer, who is turning heads thanks to his performances for the Sky Blues. Born in Brazil, the 25-year-old made his mark at Dutch sides Feyenoord and PEC Zwolle before moving to England with Coventry City in 2020. Hamer has since made 85 appearances for the Championship side, scoring eight goals and assisting 13 more.

His performances helped him earn a new contract in March, handing Coventry enough leeway in negotiations. Fulham will need to fork out in excess of £10 million to secure the 25-year-old’s services. A move to Craven Cottage would be a fair reward for his development in recent years.

Primarily a defensive midfielder, Hamer is versatile enough to do a job at right-back or right midfield if necessary. Fulham need to have a solid midfield in order to compete in the top flight, and they appear to be keen on strengthening their options in the middle of the pitch.

The Cottagers have already signed Joao Palhinha, who will offer them steel in the midfield. Adding Hamer into the mix will strengthen a roster that already contains Nathaniel Chalobah, Harrison Reed, Tom Cairney and Josh Onomah.

Hamer has an eye for a pass and has the ability to string through balls that can feed the Fulham attackers. This is good news for Aleksandar Mitrovic, who in the right areas, is as lethal as they get. The 25-year-old is also a good set-piece taker, adding to his arsenal of weapons.

One aspect that he needs to improve on is what has been a poor defensive record. He received 14 yellow cards in 39 Championship games last season and will only find it harder to keep his cool in the ultra-competitive Premier League.

This will be Hamer’s first foray into the English top-flight, and he will need to adapt quickly in order to prosper. The midfielder has chinks to iron out, and Fulham will be taking a real gamble in trying to land the 25-year-old.
