Arsenal will not pursue a deal for Gianluca Scamacca in this window, with Sassuolo’s €50 million asking price deemed expensive by the north Londoners.

According to Fabrizio Romano on Caught Offside, Arsenal are out of the race for Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca, deeming his price expensive for their taste. The Gunners were credited with an interest in the Italian international, who remains a target for PSG.

Gianluca Scamacca finished the 2021/22 Serie A season with 16 goals in 36 appearances, which was enough to attract the attention of big clubs. While he was reportedly eager to remain in Italy, there were not many clubs that may have suited his ambitions.

Juventus signed Dusan Vlahovic in January, while AC Milan, Napoli and AS Roma have a similar forward in their ranks. So, Inter Milan was the only viable option for Scamacca but the Nerazzurri opted to re-sign Romelu Lukaku, leaving the Sassuolo ace to entertain offers from abroad.

Arsenal were reportedly keen on signing the striker when Mikel Arteta looked for a new No.9 to lead the attack. However, since the arrival of Gabriel Jesus, the north Londoners may be out of the running for another striker, given they also renewed Eddie Nketiah’s contract.

Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed the same, mentioning Arsenal’s reluctance to pay up Sassuolo’s asking price of around €50 million. Romano wrote, “Arsenal are no longer in the race for Gianluca Scamacca after signing Gabriel Jesus – the Italy international was the second name on their list. The idea now is to look for a different player, not a €50m price tag central striker like Scamacca,”

Arsenal are vying for a new wide attacker and a left-back. For the latter position, they chased Lisandro Martinez of AFC Ajax, although recently, they have shifted their attention towards Benfica star Grimaldo.

As for the wide attacker, after their fruitless chase of Raphinha, Arsenal have switched their attention to other names. Recently they were linked to Lille’s Edon Zhegrova, but there are no concrete bids made yet for him or any of their alternate targets.

As for Scamacca, he could get his move away from Sassuolo, as PSG are reportedly conducting discussions for the striker. The French giants have met with the Italian side, reportedly offering around €40 million, which remains short of the Serie A side’s €50 million valuation.
