La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly poised to submit an offer worth €50 million to sign Jules Kounde from La Liga rivals Sevilla.

According to reputed Spanish journalist Jose Alvarez on El Chiringuito TV, Barcelona will soon take steps to bring Jules Kounde to Camp Nou in the summer transfer window. The Catalan giants are ready to table a bid worth €50 million to bring the French defender from La Liga rival Sevilla.

Jules Kounde has come a long way since joining Sevilla from Bordeaux as a promising young centre-back in July 2019. The 23-year-old has gone from strength to strength in the last three years, establishing himself as one of the best defenders in La Liga while becoming a mainstay at the back for the French national side.

The French international has turned out 133 times for Sevilla thus far while chipping in with nine goals and three assists. Kounde’s exploits at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium have not gone unnoticed, with some of the most high-profile clubs in Europe, including Barcelona, setting their sights on him.

The Catalan giants have already brought in one centre-back this summer by signing Andreas Christensen in a Bosman move. But Barcelona will need to invest in another centre-back because Gerard Pique is in the final phase of his illustrious career and needs to be phased out gradually as a regular.

At the same time, Samuel Umtiti, Clement Lenglet, and Oscar Mingueza face uncertain futures at Camp Nou, with the trio likely to leave Barcelona this summer. And with Eric Garcia blowing hot and cold in his debut season, Ronald Araujo is the only reliable centre-back at Xavi Hernandez’s disposal. Kounde has thus emerged as a viable target for Barcelona.

Recent reports have also claimed that Barcelona and Kounde have already reached an agreement on personal terms, with the French defender keen on moving to Camp Nou. And according to Jose Alvarez, the Catalan giants are preparing an offer worth €50 million to prise Kounde away from La Liga rival Sevilla.

It is unclear if the €50 million bid will do the trick, considering Sevilla’s reported asking price is much higher than that figure. And with Premier League heavyweights Chelsea also in the equation, Barcelona will need to be decisive while approaching their La Liga rival over a summer move for Kounde.
