Real Madrid have reportedly tabled a two-year contract offer to midfielder Dani Ceballos despite him being linked with a summer exit.

According to SPORT, Real Madrid have made a U-turn on the future of midfielder Dani Ceballos and have decided to offer him a new two-year contract to keep him at the club.

Ceballos joined Real Madrid from boyhood club Real Betis in the summer of 2017. However, the 25-year-old struggled to establish a foothold in the starting XI at the Santiago Bernabeu in his first two years. Hence, he was sent out on loan to Arsenal in 2019 and spent two years at the Emirates before returning to the Spanish capital last year.

Upon his comeback, Ceballos was expected to leave Real Madrid, but an injury picked up at the Tokyo Olympics meant an exit was off the table. The midfielder stayed put and played a handful of matches towards the end of the season after fully recovering from his injury.

While Ceballos did not make any huge impact, the midfielder showed enough quality for Real Madrid to consider keeping him at the club. But the arrival of Aurelien Tchouameni cast further doubts on his future and an exit has been mooted ever since.

A move back to Real Betis has been talked about, while AC Milan are also interested. However, the midfielder has remained coy on his future and recently claimed he would speak with Carlo Ancelotti before deciding on his future.

Ancelotti has previously spoken highly of Ceballo,s and it seems like Real Madrid have now decided to offer him a new two-year contract. The 25-year-old’s current deal stands to run out in the summer of 2023, and the new extension would see him prolong his stay at the Santiago Bernabeu until 2025.

Considering that Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Casemiro, Eduardo Camavinga, Federico Valverde and Tchouameni are all available at Ancelotti’s disposal, regular game-time could be hard to achieve for Ceballos. So, the ball is now in the midfielder’s court, and it will be up to him to choose whether he signs a new deal and continues at Real Madrid or decides to pursue a new challenge elsewhere.
