Newcastle United are reportedly confident of defeating West Ham United in the race to sign Chelsea youngster Armando Broja.

According to The Northern Echo, Newcastle United are gunning for the signing of Chelsea youngster Armando Broja and are confident of pipping Premier League rivals West Ham United in the race for the striker.

Broja, a product of the Chelsea youth academy, burst into prominence after an impressive loan spell at Vitesse Arnhem in the 2020/21 campaign. Having returned to Stamford Bridge last summer, the Albanian forward was sent out on another loan stint, this time in the Premier League with Southampton.

Broja made a good impression during his stay at St Mary’s as he finished the 2021/22 campaign with nine goals for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side. While it is not a huge tally, the 20-year-old impressed with his all-round abilities and potential in his maiden season in the Premier League.

Back at Stamford Bridge, Broja may have a chance to make it into Thomas Tuchel’s squad following the exit of Romelu Lukaku. However, with Chelsea in pursuit of several attackers this summer, the youngster might consider his options amidst widespread interest from clubs in the Premier League.

Southampton, for one, are keen on signing him permanently, while Newcastle United and West Ham United have also joined the race for Broja. West Ham are pushing to sign Broja as they need to bring in a new striker to support Michail Antonio, who is their only natural option in the No. 9 role.

The Hammers are prepared to offer £30 million for the Chelsea striker but will have to beat Newcastle to his signing. And as per the aforementioned report, the Magpies are confident of beating the Hammers to the signing of the Chelsea ace this summer.

Newcastle United have made three vital signings already in the form of Matt Targett, Nick Pope, and Sven Botman. And they have shifted their focus to bringing in a new centre-forward to challenge Callum Wilson and Chris Wood for the starting berth. The Magpies had agreed a deal to sign Hugo Ekitike from Reims but have cooled off their pursuit after the youngster appeared hesitant to make the move.

It has forced Newcastle to look for alternatives in the market, with Broja high on the wishlist of manager Eddie Howe. Newcastle United have already made an enquiry for the Chelsea youngster and are prepared to match whatever West Ham United offer for the 20-year-old forward.

Chelsea are yet to decide what they plan to do with Broja, who is tied down to a long-term contract until 2026. But considering their efforts to sign new attackers, an exit could be the likeliest option, although it could again be on a loan deal. Newcastle, for their part, are open to signing him temporarily or on a permanent transfer.

Newcastle might be able to match, or exceed, West Ham’s bid – but don’t forget the player himself will have a major say in which club he goes to. Stay in London or move to the north east? Not much of a contest really, is it? Good luck anyway with the other players you try to nick from West Ham. And, word of advice, if you’re going to spend money willy nilly, use some of it to invest in scouting staff. Might be a more sensible tactic than waiting to see who other clubs are interested in before you express an interest. Would also make you seem less pathetic.
