Leeds United are tracking Chris Richards as the 22-year-old Bayern Munich defender could be made available in the summer.

According to 90 Min, Chris Richards has emerged on Leeds United’s radar, while other Premier League clubs are also tracking the USMNT youngster. The 22-year-old could depart Bayern Munich if a reasonable offer arrives, although the Bavarians have high expectations from the American international.

Bayern Munich have worked extensively to develop youth talents at the club, and back in 2018, they signed Chris Richards after a successful trial. The 22-year-old defender has steadily become a quality player, especially after a promising season under his belt while away on loan with Hoffenheim.

Richards played 34 times for Hoffenheim and did a good job at the senior level. The Bundesliga champions are open to keeping the defender next season, although a good offer from the Premier League could tempt them to consider a sale.

The 22-year-old USMNT star has three years left on his deal with the Bavarians, and they could demand a significant sum. Crystal Palace showed an early interest in the defender, with Brighton and Southampton joining the London side in the chase.

Leeds United has become the latest side to keep tabs on the defender, as Jesse Marsch is willing to dip into the Bundesliga for defensive solutions. The Yorkshire side conceded a massive 79 goals last term, with only bottom-placed Norwich City letting in more.

Marsch is keen to add quality to his backline and could view the 22-year-old as a viable signing. They have already agreed on a deal with Manchester City for Kalvin Phillips and remain on the verge of offloading Raphinha for big money. Hence, the Whites may have plenty of funds to spend on new players.

Meanwhile, Richards is considering his options ahead of the new season. With the World Cup on the horizon, the defender wants to keep playing regularly to stand a chance to travel with the USMNT squad to Qatar. As a result, the 22-year-old may consider the prospect of leaving Bayern Munich either on loan or even permanently, with a return to Hoffenheim likely to be an option as well.

Leeds may have to decide whether to pursue the defender any further. Signing him could be a costly proposition if they consider buying him outright, although they might explore the possibility of a loan move if the conditions are right. Either way, there will be plenty of suitors for Richards if Bayern are willing to make him available in this window.
