Serie A giants Juventus are reportedly keeping tabs on Tottenham Hotspur full-back Emerson Royal over a possible move this summer.

According to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, Juventus have now joined the race to sign Tottenham Hotspur full-back Emerson Royal. Atletico Madrid were the only club to have shown interest in signing the Brazilian defender, but the Bianconeri are now ready to rival the Spanish giants in the race to secure the 23-year-old’s signature.

Emerson joined Tottenham Hotspur just last year from Barcelona and was heavily involved towards the beginning and end of his debut campaign in north London. However, he does not feature in manager Antonio Conte’s plans going forward with Spurs in the market to sign a right-back.

Tottenham are reportedly closing in a move for Middlesbrough’s highly-rated right-back Djed Spence, who spent the 2021/22 season on loan at Nottingham Forest, and the English full-bacl helped them gain promotion to the Premier League. There was interest from other parties, including Forest themselves, but Tottenham are now in the clear to sign the youngster.

Spence’s arrival will send Emerson Royal down the pecking order at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and he could find it hard to get reasonable game time. He could thus be sold this summer, despite his agent’s claims that he will stay put at Tottenham. Speaking to Brazilian outlet Lance, Emerson’s agent Dr Fabiano de Abreu commented on his situation.

“Emerson does not leave Tottenham. In fact, Antonio Conte said that even if it was for 40 million euros (£34m), the loan would not come out since he has the player as number one in his position. Royal is happy in the team and his football tends to improve.”

As per Galetti, Juventus are preparing for the possible departure of Juan Cuadrado and will make a move for Emerson should the Colombian wide man leave the Serie A club this summer. Atletico Madrid have reportedly made an official approach to sign Emerson.

The Colchoneros see the Brazilian international as a possible replacement for Kieran Tripper, who left for Newcastle United in the January transfer window. Tottenham reportedly want a transfer fee of around €25 million for the defender. It will be interesting to see if Juventus can usurp Atletico Madrid in the race to sign Emerson.
