Barcelona’s latest attempt to sign Robert Lewandowski has proved futile, with Bayern Munich rejecting their third bid for the Polish striker.
According to a report by German publication Bild, Barcelona’s third bid for Robert Lewandowski has not done the trick either, with Bayern Munich knocking back the proposal instantly. The Catalan giants had offered a base fee of €40 million and an additional €5 million in add-ons.
The Robert Lewandowski transfer saga looks destined to take an ugly turn as we get closer to Bayern Munich’s return to pre-season training. Widespread reports have suggested that the Pole could go on strike and not turn up for pre-season at all, even though the Bavarian club’s board members remain bullish about his presence.
Lewandowski, who has a brilliant tally of 344 goals and 72 assists in 374 appearances for Bayern Munich, is admittedly keen on departing from the Allianz Arena in the summer transfer window. The 33-year-old wants to join Barcelona ahead of the 2022/23 season, with the Blaugrana viewing him as their priority summer target.
Barcelona will likely lose Martin Braithwaite in the summer transfer window, with Luuk de Jong not returning in a permanent move. That leaves Xavi Hernandez with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the only natural striker at his disposal, thus necessitating the need to sign a top-class centre-forward.
Lewandowski has thus emerged as a viable target for Barcelona, with the Catalan club prioritising a summer move for the Bayern Munich striker. But the Blaugrana will need to return with a fourth offer to sign the Polish international, with the reigning Bundesliga champions rejecting their third bid.
Barcelona had proposed a base fee of €40 million, with an additional €5 million in add-ons also on offer. But Bayern Munich will look to recoup €50 million for the 33-year-old, hence knocking back the latest bid by Barcelona. But recent reports had suggested that the third proposal might be the final one from Barcelona.

It will be interesting to see if the Catalan giants return with another offer, this time in the region of €50 million, to sign Lewandowski. But in the wake of some damning comments by Uli Hoeness, it remains unclear if Barcelona will manage to secure the services of the Bayern Munich striker this summer.
