AS Roma are set to make a move for Tottenham Hotspur outcast Joe Rodon this summer.

According to 90 Min, Tottenham Hotspur are set to continue their summer clearout, with Joe Rodon in contention to leave the club. The defender has emerged as a target for AS Roma, as former coach Jose Mourinho eyes a reunion with the Welsh international this summer.

Roma’s interest in Rodon comes in the midst of speculations that suggest Tottenham are set to prevail in the race to sign Clement Lenglet. The Giallorossi were among the clubs keen on signing the Barcelona defender this summer, but it appears Spurs have beaten them to the chase.

Lenglet’s potential arrival in north London is part of Antonio Conte’s squad overhaul at Tottenham this summer. The club have already roped in the likes of Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma and Ivan Perisic. They are now closing in on Everton forward Richarlison while Lenglet is set to join on loan.

The Frenchman is likely to serve as an upgrade over Ben Davies in the left-sided centre-back role. Lenglet is far more familiar with the position and offers more technical ability to thrive in that role. His addition to the Spurs backline, though, should pave the way for the club to offload Joe Rodon this summer.

Formerly of Swansea, the Welshman has never really got going since his move to north London in 2020. Lack of game-time has been an issue, with the centre-back playing second fiddle to the likes of Cristian Romero, Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez even during the leadership of Mourinho.

However, the Portuguese mastermind feels Rodon has what it takes to follow the footsteps of players such as Fikayo Tomori and Chris Smalling by finding success in Serie A. During his time in the Italian capital, Mourinho has already changed the fortune of a few players in the team and there is no reason why Rodon cannot be the next one on the list.

That said, signing Rodon from Spurs will not be straightforward. Nottingham Forest are among the clubs keeping tabs on the Welshman. However, Tottenham have explored the possibility of including the defender in a swap deal for AS Roma playmaker Nicolo Zaniolo this summer. Whether such an operation sees the light of the day remains to be seen.
