Tottenham offered Steven Bergwijn as a makeweight in the deal to sign Richarlison, but Everton have ‘firmly’ rejected their proposal.

According to Daily Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur included Steven Bergwijn in their proposed offer for Richarlison in addition to £20 million in cash. But Everton ‘firmly’ rejected the bid as they sought a higher financial gain from selling their prized asset.

Tottenham are set on Richarlison as their primary attacking target. Antonio Conte is moving steadily in the market to secure his preferred players, and the Brazilian is considered Spurs’ next potential acquisition. Richarlison is reportedly keen on joining Tottenham, but dealing with Everton could be tricky.

Tottenham were aware of Everton’s interest in Harry Winks and were reportedly ready to use it in their favour. They also pondered including Lucas Moura as part of the deal to sign Richarlison. With nothing seemingly working in their favour, Spurs have tried the next trick in their bag.

The report suggest Tottenham made an offer worth £20 million plus Steven Bergwijn to bring Richarlison to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. But Everton have ‘firmly’ rejected the offer, with the Toffees seeking high financial gain from any possible transfer for the Brazilian.

According to previous reports, Everton’s demand was closer to a nine-figure sum for the Brazilian international. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will certainly drive a hard bargain with his Everton counterparts, and Tottenham are not known to pay exorbitant prices for targets.

Levy and Everton chief Bill Kenwright reportedly met in London recently, which suggests there are plenty of discussions going on between the clubs. Spurs’ latest offer with Bergwijn as a makeweight at least indicates the Dutchman has no future under Conte, and the north Londoners might take a significant hit on the £27 million they invested in the former PSV Eindhoven attacker.

Ajax are also interested in the Dutch international, and Bergwijn remains keen on joining the Amsterdam giants. However, remaining in the Premier League could be a great option for the forward, and Everton could be a good option for him.

As for Richarlison, his time at Everton may come to an end soon. There is a consensus the Brazilian will have an amicable departure considering his contributions last season, which helped the Toffees avoid relegation. Tottenham remain favourites to sign their priority target, and it is a matter of time before he wears the white shirt of Spurs.
