Fiorentina are ready to rekindle their interest in Giovani Lo Celso, after missing out on signing him on loan from Tottenham in January.

According to Tuttosport (h/t Sport Witness), Fiorentina are interested in a move for Giovani Lo Celso after having failed to secure his services on loan during the January transfer window. Tottenham are ready to part ways with the Argentine international.

Giovani Lo Celso never recreated the brilliant form from his Real Betis days, which had prompted Tottenham to make a move for him in 2019. Two and a half years in north London have not yielded good performances, which led Spurs to loan him out to Villarreal in January.

The Argentine midfielder found his spark back in Spain as he helped Villarreal reach the semifinals of the Champions League. He also made 16 appearances in La Liga, and Unai Emery remains keen on signing him permanently.

However, Villarreal are yet to reach a financial agreement to convince Tottenham over a sale, as Lo Celso has returned to north London. Spurs also pondered including the Argentine in a deal for Pau Torres, but things have gone cold.

Atletico Madrid are also reportedly interested in Lo Celso, as Diego Simeone was impressed by his output for Villarreal. However, Fiorentina have entered the chase, with the Italian side ready to rekindle their interest from January.

The Serie A side wanted the Argentine in January but got pipped by Villarreal for his signature. Since Lo Celso is back on the market, Fiorentina could explore an opportunity again, especially after they messed up the opportunity to sign Lucas Torreira from Arsenal.

The Arsenal star now features on AS Roma’s list, but at one stage, Fiorentina were poised to sign him after a terrific season on loan in Serie A. The Italian side decided to offer a lower fee than previously agreed with the Gunners, which did not work in their favour.

They still have to fill a midfield void left by the Uruguayan and may look at Lo Celso. Fiorentina may not be able to offer a permanent deal for the midfielder, although they could explore the possibility of taking him on loan.

Lo Celse still has three years left on his deal, allowing Spurs to consider a loan deal. As things stand, the arrival of Rodrigo Bentancur in January and Yves Bissouma in this window means there is no place for the Argentine in Antonio Conte’s plans. A move to Spain seems the likeliest outcome, but Fiorentina could make a strong push for the playmaker.
